The Courthouse Building, was built in 1880, though the original structure was destroyed by fire in 1920, a casualty of the War of Independence. Court still convenes in the Courtroom Theatre once a month, on the upper level. The theatre is home to the Lismore Dramatic Society and hosts various entertaining productions throughout the year. In 1992 it opened its doors as Lismore Heritage Centre and been welcoming visitors from around the world. ‘The Lismore Experience’, a multimedia presentation, is a must for all those wishing to learn about Lismore’s illustrious past from the arrival of St. Carthage in 635 AD right up to the present day. and is available in English, French, German and Italian.
