Tourin House and Gardens are situated three miles from the Heritage town of Lismore, County Waterford. The Main House at Tourin was built in 1840 in the then fashionable Italianate style. The main architectural feature to this house is a fine double oak staircase, which can be seen as one enters the main hall. Overlooking the River Blackwater the original historic 16th-century tower house still stands and can be seen from the garden.
Tourin Gardens extends over 5 acres and include a stunningly built walled garden. This is most certainly a gardener’s paradise with camellias, rhododendrons, magnolias and other shrubs give a superb seasonal display of colour. The best time to admire this garden is predominately spring with snowdrops, daffodils and other bulbs. But it cannot shadow the amount of colour that will be on showcase in the Summer time. The Gardens also have an impressive collection of over one hundred different Bearded Iris flowers which bloom in May/June. Tourin House is nothing short of a perfect location to admire nature at her most majestic with woodland paths, preened gardens, Tourin Quay and a stagnant pond with wild duck and other wild life.Tourin house is home to a famous local artist by the name of Andrea Jameson, it’s apparent she has taken her inspiration from her surroundings, producing some stunning artwork. A small collection of her pieces can be found on display in the Lismore Heritage Centre, so be sure to visit to admire her talents.
To enter this wonderland there is a small fee of €5 for House/Garden, OAP/ Student €3 and children are free. 2017 opening dates have yet to be confirmed so please check back in the near future for updates. It is also advised to contact the property directly prior to making arrangements to visits.
